Oracle Hyperion Planning now allows you to turn any data form into a variety of dashboards. This blog post shares how a change in a form that is on the dashboard will instantly change the dashboard on the panel. This can be used in several business scenarios especially for what-if and scenario analysis.

Before a dashboard can be created you must have an underlying form that you want to link to the dashboard. To create a form:
Click on the Navigator -> Forms
You can create a simple form using the Create Simple Form button as shown in the screenshot below.
As you can see I have already created two forms one for each on the dashboard panel. “IS Demo 2- YHS“ will be used as a table that can be edited directly by the user. “IS Demo 1 – YHS” will be the column graph that is in the dashboard panel.
IS Demo 1- YHS
One thing to note in “IS Demo -1 –YHS” is that I would like my rows and columns to be specific members so that the dashboard will use these members to create the respective graph. As you can see no function was used when specifying the rows and columns. This form will be showing a higher level POV than “IS Demo 2 – YHS”.
“IS Demo 2 –YHS” is the form that the user will be inputting data into. Notice that all the intersections are 0-level members.

Creating your dashboard
Let’s start with creating our dashboard now that we have our forms ready for use.
Click on the Navigator -> Dashboards.
Using the Create button you can open your dashboard designer.
The following screen will open. As shown in the screenshot. You are able to add three different types of dashboards.
- Forms in the form of a table (IS Demo 2 –YHS)
- Forms in the form of a graph (IS Demo 1 –YHS)
- External artifacts like URL’s or Comments
Let’s start by adding the IS Demo 2 –YHS by dragging it from the left panel as shown below.
Now let’s add the IS Demo 1. It is a Column graph, so that is what we will be dragging. Notice that you need to release the dashboard in between the dashed and the straight lines on the page.
The added graph is only a sample graph. Let’s associate it to the form we created beforehand. To do that Click on the settings button as highlighted in the below screenshot.
In the Data tab click on the forms radio button and select the form you want to add. I will be adding the “IS Demo 1 - YHS” form as shown below.
Now that we have both panels set up. Let us add some commentary. Click and drag the commentary artifact as shown below.
You can change the format of your commentary as necessary.
Notice that the panels are pretty rigid in terms of movement. I would like to make them more flexible and I want my users to control how much of each panel he/she wants to see. Click on the Settings button for the entire panel as highlighted below.
Change the layout to Flexible
After editing your dashboard to your taste click the Save button. To make your new form the default form when accessing PBCS click on the Actions button and then click Default.
Open your form and change the desired cells and click the save button as I have shown below.
A change is instantly noticed in your dashboard as the value has changed. This can be very beneficial for creating a what-if analysis and seeing its effect instantly in your dashboard.

Note: Watch for when you are dragging your artifact as it needs to be in between the dashed lines shown.
You might not be able to see the dashboard from your tablet. Here is how you can fix that.
Enable Tablet Access
To enable access to the forms associated with the dashboards from either the simplified or the classic interface go to Administration -> Manage -> Simplified Interface.
Using the simplified interface go to: Navigator -> Access Simplified Interface..
Choose the form(s) that are underlying your dashboards and add them to the list as shown below.
As you can see even though a dashboard looks like it is complicated, creating it is a simple task.
