What’s New in Oracle EPM 11.1.2.2?

On April 7th, Oracle launched the widely anticipated Oracle EPM System Release 11.1.2.2. The release delivers enhanced planning and budgeting, new closed-loop solutions for financial close and disclosure management, and a range of new features that reduce total cost of ownership.  Our “What’s New in EPM 11.1.2.2” blog series will review the Hyperion Enterprise Planning Suite, the Hyperion Financial Close Suite, the Oracle Exalytics In-Memory Machine and other, general EPM technology improvements. Let’s first take a look at what’s new in Planning.

Pre-Built Modules & Industry Specific Applications

The new release offers serious rapid time to value with pre-built modules and industry specific applications.  Oracle has grown the family of pre-built modules of Workforce Planning and Capital Asset Planning by adding Project Financial Planning.  Furthermore, Planning now addresses industry-specific needs, such as Balance Sheet Planning for Banks and Public Sector Planning and Budgeting.

Integrated Planning with Hyperion Strategic Finance

The new release aligns long range planning with annual plans and budgets.  The integration provides financial modeling for project investment analysis and prioritization.  Furthermore, this release of Hyperion Strategic Finance allows users for the first time to perform financial modeling and have free form modeling reports within the familiar Smart View Excel interface.

Built-In Statistical Forecasting

Predictive Planning is also addressed in the new release.  External forecasting packages are typically difficult or cumbersome. However, with 11.1.2.2, statistical forecasting is now built into Planning and accessible to all Planning users. Other new functional details include providing automatic best and worst case scenarios, enabling real-time sanity checks during cycle, prediction accuracy comparisons of Forecast vs. Statistical, and the ability to analyze historical data, project trends, and patterns into the future.

New Enhancements

So, lots of new enhancements within Oracle Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.2. Here is a list of some of the more exciting enhancements:

  • 11.1.2.2 Hyperion Planning now uses the Oracle Fusion Middleware based Application Design Framework (ADF) for the user interface which provides a new look and feel for the application

  • Shared Service Groups can now be specified as owners of planning units and
any user within the group can take ownership and promote

  • Within the Planning interface, the approvals promotion path is graphical and
    interactive in display

  • Composite forms can be created where one or multiple forms can be
    designated as graphs

  • Bread crumb navigation allows for forms which have a right click menu
navigation to other forms to be displayed using a navigation trail that is
    displayed above the form

  • Calculation Manager will be the only Rules designer for Hyperion Planning
from 11.1.2.2 (no HBR) and a migration script is available to migrate HBR rules
    into Calc Manager
  • Project Financial Planning’s now offers several enhanced areas of functionality,
including importing metadata and data, expense planning at detail level and
allocation of workforce resources and capital asset projects.  In fact, the enhancements are so numerous, my next blog post will feature Project Financial Planning.  Check back for more information soon!
